Our Founder

The Trillium Family Foundation was founded in 2001 by Tony Andersen. The foundation’s vision statement mirrors the man.

Tony and his daughter, Amy Andersen, operated the foundation together until Tony’s death in 2005. Since then, Amy and the board of directors have continued serving Tony’s legacy through the Foundation.

Meet the Board

Collectively, we bring more than 300 years of professional experience to our work with the Trillium Family Foundation from a wide range of fields. We are: a philosopher who went to Wall Street, a brown water Navy veteran turned park ranger who found his heart and soul in the natural world, a journalist-daughter of Norwegian immigrants with a passion for rural economic development, a senior Federal Probation Officer and an early career math teacher who found her forever home in philanthropy. Some of our ancestors live on a different continent while others have lived in the Americas for millennia. Some ancestors have served at the highest level of state government, while others have been incarcerated because of the color of their skin. We are a community of teachers and learners studying nursing, German, origami, sailing and home improvement. As residents of Wyoming and Minnesota we are navigating wildly diverse landscapes, juggling life transitions and showing up with full hearts for our partners, kids and grandkids, our parents and siblings, our nieces and nephews.

Though we come from very different lived experiences, we are bound together in service by a deep commitment to be a positive force for good in the world through our work in philanthropy. We have many different stories. We look forward to learning about yours.
